On March 22, President William Ruto announced that the government was giving 4,000 acres of prime land to developers all throughout the nation for free to be used for the construction of affordable houses. At the Nairobi Stock Exchange’s listing of Laptrust Imara (REIT), Ruto said that the land parcels had been provided by a number of county governments.
He continued by stating that private investors would receive the parcels, which are valued at between Ksh20 billion and Ksh30 billion, for building.
“We have since, as a government, made land for the construction of houses free. You do not have to pay for them. I want to thank several counties who have raised the worth of over 4,000 acres of very prime land in many areas of our towns to anywhere between Ksh20 billion and Ksh30 billion, said Ruto.

The Head of State provided an explanation for the relocation, stating that a significant portion of the cost of building a house was spent on the cost of the land, which deterred investors from developing inexpensive housing units. He noted that the issuance of free land would, therefore, allow for the construction of houses that could be bought by Kenyans at affordable prices. The Head of State said, “The cost of land contributed up to between 20 and 30 percent of the cost of building a house and was a barrier to construction in the country. “Ruto further emphasized that in order to support regional manufacturing and increase mass rollouts, private developers must employ standardized building materials. “Everybody was building a designer house and you know what designer means. So to be able to build houses on a large scale, it became necessary to standardize all building materials from doors, windows, and all the components of a house,” the President announced.
The provision of free land and the construction method of Tetris Homes is a fantastic combination and we look forward to collaborating soon.
